Tom Regelski published more than 150 articles and books throughout his career in music education. Much of this work was conducted within 20 especially prolific years from around 1990 to 2010, during which time Tom also founded the MayDay Group and Action, Criticism, and Theory for Music Education (ACT). To commemorate Tom’s professional life and the positive impact his work continues to have, the current editor of ACT (Lauren Kapalka Richerme) and three past editors (Vincent Bates, Deborah Bradley, Scott Goble) invite articles that engage with and extend key points in Tom’s publications. In the spirit of Habermas’s communicative rationality, which Tom espoused, authors are welcome to submit articles critical of various aspects of Tom’s work—to “write back” or be in dialogue with Tom’s writing—albeit in ways that promote praxis (i.e., actions to bring about good and equitable results) in music education. All other ACT submission guidelines apply. Completed manuscripts are due May 15, reviews will be completed by July 15, and revisions should be ready by September 15. Our intent is to publish this special issue in October of 2025, one year from Tom’s passing.
